windy wednesday

It was sunny today, it was actually nice. Not warm but warmer than yesterday. Super windy though. Apparently Soren's job today was yard work (I offered my help, he said he was okay) and it was too windy to use the leaf blower.

Now the part you've all been waiting for, I finished the homemade Poptarts! They turned out really cute. I only had a bite of one but it was yummy. Soren really liked it. They take a while and they are definitely a labor of love. They weren't hard to make, you just have to have a lot of time. The dough requires chilling and the Poptarts requires chilling and then they have to cool before icing, it's all a process. I would do it again if I had this much time. I also think I would double the dough because I still have plenty of filling but not enough dough. I only ended up making six. I don't know if my dough wasn't thin enough or what but they're yummy. Also I learned not to overfill them because the mixture burns a little. If you've ever been to Iron Rooster and had their homemade Poptart, I would argue that mine is a little better. I'm just not a big fan of the Iron Rooster crust and this crust is tastier. I think I would try making a different filled Poptart too. Maybe I'll try cinnamon sugar or s'mores, those would be yummy. I bet blueberry wouldn't be too hard either. I don't think I'm going to bake anything for the next couple of days but never say never... I know they're not all perfectly the same shape, I tried my best. I didn't have a ruler either, I just eyeballed it. I'm a firm believer in "it's the taste that counts." Here's the recipe I used: https://sugarspunrun.com/homemade-strawberry-pop-tarts/

I know I said I wasn't going to bake anything else this week so this is for the future, I want to try making homemade donuts but I don't have a donut pan. I read that you can make a makeshift one out of tinfoil and a muffin pan so I might try that, we'll see. It depends on how many other recipes I'll have found to try. I still want to make homemade Chipotle, I'm feeling like that could be a Saturday activity. It depends on what other Saturday activities we'll have that I don't know about.

I was going to run today but my hip was not feeling it. It has been tight but normally I can just run and it loosens up and it feels fine but today it didn't do that. I decided one day off wouldn't kill me. I did a little abs and arms workout instead. It wasn't too intense it was just better than nothing. I'm going to start tomorrow off with some "hip opening yoga" on the Nike training app. All of their workouts are free right now, even the premium ones. It's only 15 minutes and I think it'll be a nice way to start the day. Hopefully this will help so that my hips aren't as tight on tomorrow's run!

I'm trying not to online shop at all this week, I think I've done pretty well. I mean I know I have because I haven't bought anything. Even though I haven't had a ton to do, this week has sort of flown by. I don't know why but I'm not complaining. It's been a good week. I know Soren's been busy and he might say otherwise because he's doing manual labor but I've enjoyed it.

I've been working on not planning things out so much. I'm normally a very regimented person, I like a schedule and a timeline. That's why even though I complain about waking up early, I don't mind my schedule at Navy. I like structure and predictability. I know we've been in quarantine for awhile now but my schedule is still changing. I don't have classes now but in two weeks I will so then I'll have to be up at a certain time. I'm trying to go with the flow, sometimes it works better than others. Today I was able to sleep in and then I didn't have as much time to sit around which is good for me. I don't love sitting around, I don't love sitting on my phone, that gets boring and I know it's not good for me. I know I should read my book but I don't always feel like it.

My only plan for tomorrow is that when I wake up, whatever time that is, I will do my yoga and then get ready for the day. If I have a lot of time I'll journal and then read if I feel like it. If I don't, I'll drink my coffee and sit on my phone until it's time to go. I know that a lot of people say that we should set schedules during quarantine to maintain productivity or whatever but I feel like I've done what I've had to and gotten to sleep. It's different for everyone, if you need to wake up at 6:30 to ensure that you get everything done, kudos to you. If you prefer to sleep until noon and then stay up until weird hours of the night, that's cool too. I genuinely don't care. We're all doing different things, normal college students would be getting jobs and internships now, Midshipmen and other military academy students are supposed to be beginning summer trainings or going on leave, high schoolers are getting jobs or going to camps or hanging out with their friends, parents and other adults are working or finding jobs, everyone is different. I don't really know why I went on that tangent, I guess I just felt that it needed to be said. I guess I'll end with that thought. Hope everyone's still safe and healthy!
