This morning it was looking a little overcast, it has since cleared up and it should hopefully be a nice day! I know I said I was going to blog more frequently but I also didn't really have anything to write about yesterday so that's why it's been a few more days.
When I say I didn't do anything yesterday I really mean it. I only left the house twice: once to run and once to pick my dad up from the rental car place. Days like that used to bother me, when I felt like I didn't have anything to do. I've since learned to appreciate a slow day every once in awhile. They can be relaxing.
I ran a little under 6.5 miles yesterday, I really didn't want to. The weather app said it was supposed to rain and I made a deal with myself before I left the house that if it started raining I would stop what I was doing and turn around. I have never prayed for rain more than I did yesterday. So what happened? It never rained. Looking back on it, I'm glad it didn't rain because I was really proud of myself when I accomplished my goal of another 10k. It was very humid though. When I got back I sat on my back deck like I normally do but man, I was super sweaty.
I'm finally starting to like running again and it's one of those love-hate relationships. I hate waking up early to run but I always feel so accomplished afterwards. I also used to hate running in the morning because I didn't like to run on an empty stomach but I also didn't like to run after I'd eaten. I have since found that if you eat a little something and drink about a half a bottle of water your run will be much better. I did some research and a lot of runners' websites suggest a handful of berries and a piece of toast so that's what I eat. One of the 70-calorie slices of Dave's killer bread and a handful of blueberries. I don't feel it when I run and because I have a little bit of food I can drink a little more water without hearing it slosh around. Just in case anyone wanted a little more clarity, I only eat before I run if it's in the morning and I'm planning on going more than 3 miles. That's when I find that I need some more energy and stuff.
Okay so back to what I was going to write about, after my run I made breakfast, a smoothie bowl, and just hung out. I had my last official French summer school class yesterday, we reviewed for the final exam that I have in a little under an hour. Yes, I should be studying but this is my study break.
I really didn't do much else yesterday... This time last year I was on a ship in San Diego for my youngster cruise. I had a lot of fun, it was the first time I'd actually been away from home for an extended period of time but I made some good friends. I also remembered that my mom gave me the book, You're A Badass and for lack of a better way to describe it, it was a self-help book. I sometimes feel like she's trying to send me signals... Like when she brought home the lite version of Angie's popcorn. She claims that it was all the store had but maybe she's suggesting something... Also when you're underway on a ship there isn't any cell service so I had no choice but to read, it wasn't a bad book if anyone was wondering.
Another little tip and trick that I've recently found is crystal salt deodorant. I've been meaning to switch to natural deodorant for a long time but I haven't found one that I like. I was telling Soren's mom about this and she said that when they used to live in Florida she wore deodorant that was natural and all it is salt. It works without clogging your pores and it's fragrance free. I wanted to try it and so did my mom. I can say that I was skeptical but we've both been using it for close to a month now and we love it. It isn't an antiperspirant but I promise that you won't smell. I really like it. Here's the link: https://www.wonderlabs.com/itemleft.php?itemnum=1019&ad=GF1019&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlZ3M3sXF6gIV0eDICh1QaAHmEAQYAiABEgIxn_D_BwE. The only downside is you have to order it, I haven't seen it in any drugstores or Target or anything. It's pretty cheap too. It's called a Thai Crystal Deodorant stone.
My mom and I went on a walk this morning, again, I don't know how she walks so fast and manages to talk, I always feel so winded. She really likes it though so I keep my complaining to a minimum :).
I guess now's a good time to talk about how 2020 has sucked for everyone but for some people more than others. There are lots of bad things going on in the world and I don't want to get into them but one of my best friends lost her mom a few days ago and my heart is broken for her. I don't know what to say and fortunately, I can't relate. I know what it's like to lose a loved one but I can't even imagine losing my mom. It's even harder for me to comprehend because I knew her mom and we'd had dinner with her and our parents were friends. Just please keep her, her sisters, and the rest of her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Sorry to end on such a sad note, just thought I should share what's going on. Hope everyone has a great weekend and that this tropical storm doesn't actually hit the East Coast!
