The title of today's post is inspired by the text I received from Madeline at 8:05 AM. Last week felt like it took an eternity, I don't know why but everyone seemed to agree with me. It was really nice weather though so that was nice.

On Friday afternoon I took Madeline to a trail near my house and we ran. It was awesome weather and I really enjoyed it. She said she did too but she also made a point to tell me how sore she was. We got smoothies after and then we went to dinner with Fi and Liv at Main and Market. It's always nice to go back there. Friday night I just hung out at home with my parents because we had to be up early the next morning to go to PopPop's funeral.

His service was nice, there was only a few of us there but it was really meaningful. The cemetery was beautiful too, I have tons of relatives buried there.

Once I got home though I didn't know what to do because all of my friends were still at the football game so I had to wait for them to be done before I could make any plans haha. I ended up hanging out with my company, one of my friends' parents were in town and they made dinner for us and it was really nice!!

Sunday was pretty chill, I got breakfast with my mom, ran some errands and then hung out at home for awhile before I came back to school. For most people, Sunday nights are when we just crank out homework. I realize I could definitely prepare more but I prefer to enjoy my weekend.

So one of my English classes is called "Types of Fiction," it's an elective and I had no idea what I was signing up for when I picked it. I guess I thought we'd read a few books and write a couple short papers but boy was I wrong. It's been a lot of work. We have group work almost every class and a reading or short assignment nearly every class. On top of all of that we're writing our own short story, short is relative. It's going to be about 50 pages long. For reference I've written like 7700 words and it's about 25 pages. I've never written that much in my life. Whenever I tell anyone about that long paper that isn't in my class they have the wildest reactions because that really is just "so many words." At least it's not a research paper.

On the topic of paper, I really hate when people ask to "borrow" something that they can't return like, "can I borrow a piece of paper?" NO!!! You cannot "borrow" something that I'm not getting back. You can't "borrow" a stick of gum either, you can have one. I will gladly give you a piece but I will not loan you a piece. I think this is just a me thing but it really irks me. You "borrow" a whole puncher or an eraser because you can use that multiple times but you don't "borrow" a Tide pod.

Oh another thing about being an English major, the majority of the other students in my classes are English majors and they're almost all juniors and seniors. I don't know where they went to high school but it clearly was a much better high school than mine. We've had to read Kafka and Moby Dick and all of these well-known but rather scholarly authors (in my opinion) and they all raise their hands and are like "Oh yeah Sir I read this in high school." I think I read like three Shakespeare plays in high school and Huckleberry Finn but after that I'm calling it quits. Oh, I definitely read The Grapes of Wrath too. I really wonder why I picked English, I mean I'm doing well but my public high school did me dirty in terms of preparation for this major. Granted, I didn't plan on being an English major, it just happened. It just really kills me when one of my professors makes an obscure reference and some other kid in the class understands it and expounds on it, I just sit there and pretend like I did the reading.

Don't even get me started on poetry. There's a reason I took "Asian American Literature" before I even considered a poetry class. We also have a whole class called "Chaucer" I don't even know who Chaucer is... Is it a man or a woman? Oh yeah but poetry analysis is beyond me. How am I supposed to know that the leaves blowing symbolizes change? Like how did someone pick all of that up out of their reading? I'm too literal I guess...

Okay enough of that. I hope everyone is excited about Friday as Madeline is! Hope you have a good week.
