I, just like every other college athlete, was devastated when my season was cancelled. This was our year, we knew we would have a shot at winning Nationals. We were on our spring break trip in Charleston, SC when our coaches called us in. It was weird because we never have serious meetings unless something is wrong. Before we got the word that our season was over we just thought that we'd be postponed, that there was no way they would cancel it. It's sailing for god's sake, we are as "socially distanced" as possible. We don't even touch each other! Needless to say, it was heartbreaking. Not just for me but for everyone, my teammates, the seniors specifically, my friends, other athletes. It sucks, but there's so many of us going through it, that we're going to be okay.

We all doubted that the Naval Academy would cancel school, we're tough, they know we can handle it, this virus can't keep us down. All things that would normally be true, but it was too big of a risk to bring back 4,300 students from all over the world. At first we were only going to be out for two weeks, we'd return in the end of March, that was two weeks ago... Now we are testing the water that is online school. It's funny honestly. I, and the majority of my professors have no idea how to use Google Hangouts or Zoom. I still haven't found the perfect angle for my computer camera.
So, I went to Maine with my boyfriend, Soren. Assuming that I'd only be here for two weeks and then we'd go back to school. Well, I've now been in the small mill town of Dover-Foxcroft for close to four weeks. I'm glad his family isn't sick of me yet. My parents are sad, but it's more germ free here then it is in Annapolis. I, just like everyone else, have run out of ways to spend my time so here I am, thus beginning this blog.
