a very muggy monday

That makes it sound a little depressing but honestly it's not bad at all it's just super humid. It has definitely been awhile, I can't say I've been super busy I just haven't really felt like blogging. I'd much rather spend my time outside or sailing or just hanging out.

I've been running a lot more and I really enjoy it. My recent schedule has been wake up pretty early, eat one slice of toast and a handful of berries, chug some water and run. I find that eating a little something is super helpful. I used to be anti-eat-before-you-run but I think it's the key to a good run. Otherwise I just feel sluggish, hungry, and thirsty by the second mile. I definitely benefit from a little bit to eat before without it being too much.

I've also gotten into biking, this is thanks to Madeline and her stress-fractured feet. We biked 20 miles last Thursday and it's inspired me to bike. We want to keep it up even once we go back to school. I like it because you can chat and bike, that definitely means we could be working a little harder but I'll really take all of the social interactions I can get these days.

I only sailed one day last week and there wasn't a whole lot of wind but it was still fun. I think I'm supposed to sail today, hopefully the thunderstorms clear up! I don't think they're supposed to last all day but you never know in the summer because it gets so hot.

I think if I can take anything away from being in a pandemic is never take walking for granted. I've gone on more walks since this whole thing has started than I think I ever have. Last week I walked 4 miles with Elizabeth, almost 3 with Claire and my mom and I have a 2.5 mile route we've done a few times. She's a speedy walker, it's actually kind of tiring. I'm more of a chat and walk kind of gal but that's not as much of a possibility when my mom and I take off on these run-walks.

Today, Elena and I ran together but we both started our runs from different places and met up which was fun. I ended up running 6 miles and I think she ran like 5.5. I personally feel that it's always more fun to run with friends. That way you can chat as you run and you kind of forget that you're running and sweating.

We had a neighborhood dinner last night, I went with my parents because I can never turn down a good smoked brisket. Everyone brought a side so I made a quinoa salad. Soren's mom always makes one and hers is really good and I think I followed the same recipe. It was super easy! The only thing I changed was that I couldn't find any red onion when I went to the store yesterday so I just left it out. Also we couldn't find a micro planar or anything to zest the lime so I also left that out... Anyways it tasted really good anyways and here's the recipe: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/257254/black-bean-corn-and-quinoa-salad/ I think the key to making quinoa taste good is by cooking it in chicken broth. I'm hoping we can convince my dad that he needs a Green Egg so that we can start making our own. I think he was pretty convinced after our neighbor's brisket turned out so well. I really just want him to figure out ribs and pulled pork. I love good barbecue.

We also went out on the boat yesterday. We took Bungee and he's been on the boat before but we were worried he would get hot and bored because we didn't think he'd like swimming. This was all based on the one time we took him to a dog beach and he hated it. I think there were some other factors like the fact he was the smallest dog and we'd just rescued him and the water was freezing that day. Yesterday he really enjoyed it. I was the first to jump in and the water was super warm and he was standing on the edge of the boat and so my dad helped him into the water. He has a little dog life jacket and he just paddled to me. His favorite thing was just floating on the float. I thought it was really cute and here's a picture. Once we came back from being on the boat Bungee was so tired but I think he enjoyed it.

We have a lot of bananas right now so I'm hoping that there's 3 leftover so I can make banana bread. I haven't made any in a few weeks and I think my mom would enjoy it. I might even try gluten free so my dad can eat it too!

I think that's all for now, I'm going to try and blog more regularly again because I actually do enjoy it I just don't have a lot of super interesting things to write about or at least I don't think they'll interest anyone else...
